Author-it Software Co. (ASC) is a world leading provider of on-premise and cloud-based products for authoring technical publications, e-learning and pharmaceutical information.

What does that mean for our customers? Our tools are used by some of the world’s largest organisations to enable reuse, reassembly and multiformat consumption of mission critical content. Our two software platforms, Docuvera and Author-it, enable the transformation of how our customers create and manage their content, leveraging a component first approach where content is broken down, easily assembled into documents, and reused across their organisation.

Our two products serve different industries; Docuvera’s focus is solving the problem of inefficiency in creating and updating documentation through the drug development lifecycle for biopharma for large global Life Science customers, while Author-it provides technical documentation, learning & development, and compliance solutions for hightech, manufacturing, energy and more, at enterprise scale across the globe.

Established in 2000, we are currently headquartered in Wellington, New Zealand. We have a team of over 100 people based mainly in New Zealand, Europe, and the United States, working across Technology, Product, Quality, Customer Success, Marketing, Sales, Finance and People Experience teams.

The part you’ll play

You’ll build SaaS applications in collaboration with program managers, UX designers and testers, as well as developers in our New Zealand, US and Europe-based teams. Working with our senior technical staff, you’ll also have a say in the technologies we use, and how we use them, for solving complex problems on an enterprise scale.

This role is all about doing things efficiently and making them even better. So as well as continuous improvement to our design, development and quality processes, you’ll also help to continuously evolve the Docuvera engineering strategy.

A day in the life

• Work with your squad on the development of new features and squashing bugs
• Work with your peers to improve efficiency, build close relationships and improve the way you work
• Collaborate with other parts of the organisation to ensure you have what you need to do your best work
• Maintain and improve the quality of your work and the product by writing unit tests and documentation
• Participating in planning and refining the work for your squad
• Supporting the technical lead, senior developers and architect roles as required
• Supporting a world-class engineering culture where engineers have the skills and autonomy needed to build high-quality product.

You will have some of these skills

As someone just starting out in this field, we don’t expect you to have all of these skills. Having knowledge of some of these will help. Having a genuine willingness to expand your knowledge and learn in these areas is key!

• JavaScript, or a language that compiles to JS such as TypeScript or CoffeeScript
• Backbone, Angular, React, or a similar front-end JS framework
• REST and GraphQL APIs
• Relational and non-relational databases, such as SQL Server, Postgres, or MongoDB
• AWS platform offerings
• Agile/Scrum/Kanban development methodology
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (both written and orally)
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines in an agile/iterative software development process without losing sight of longer-term goals or the big picture.
• Your team-first mindset. Your way of working is collaborative
• A willingness to learn, to adapt to try new things, or take on a different perspective
• Resiliency, as change comes with the territory in a scale up tech environment
• A positive attitude and strong EQ to build and maintain a great connection with your team members across ASC
• The ability to think outside the box and focus on solutions
