Software Quality EngineerJob Description
Brooks is a fast-growing technology leader in automation solutions for the semiconductor and life science markets. We foster an innovative, customer-focused culture and are seeking a Software Quality Engineer to support our expanding product portfolio.
The Software Quality Engineer will rapidly learn product software and control architectures, support design-in activities, troubleshoot issues, assist customers, and recommend architectural improvements. This role also contributes to customer documentation, ensuring accuracy and alignment with our “zero-defect” commitment.
Effective collaboration is essential. The SQA team works jointly on shared initiatives and individually on assigned test activities, often rotating responsibilities for cross-training. The position interacts regularly with other SQA engineering, software engineering, mechanical/electrical/systems engineering, field service, and manufacturing teams across the globe (US, Europe, China, South Korea, …).
Candidates must be able to interpret technical documentation and develop comprehensive functional test plans—both manual and automated—to ensure broad product coverage.
Primary Responsibilities
· Develop and execute systematic software tests and maintain quality standards.
· Create and update test plans, procedures, and documentation.
· Analyze test results, validate functionality, and recommend corrective actions.
· Partner with development engineers to resolve issues.
· Maintain detailed test records to support debugging and product updates.
Career Level Works under limited supervision and may lead small projects or significant portions of larger programs. Applies broad technical knowledge and collaborates frequently with internal teams and external customers. Solutions often require creative problem-solving. Errors may impact project outcomes and require substantial resources to resolve.
Qualifications
· Relevant degree with 4+ years of experience
· Experience with formal Software Quality Assurance processes.
· Proficiency in Python for automated testing.
· Familiarity with additional programming languages and tools is an asset.
· Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and GIT or similar source control systems.
· Strong Excel skills for organizing and presenting test data.
· Basic understanding and mechanical/electrical aptitude is helpful for working with vacuum automation (robots, sensors, …).
· Openness / familiarity with using AI productivity tools (e.g. CoPilot, ChatGPT, …) is an asset.
