Biochrom an affiliate of Harvard Bioscience, a long-established global company that has been developing scientific equipment for over 120 years. Harvard Bioscience designs and manufactures a wide range of life-science research instruments used in universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and biotech labs around the world.

At Biochrom, we build Amino Acid Analyzer (AAA) machines. These specialised lab instruments help hospitals test small samples to measure amino acid levels. This is important because it helps doctors diagnose rare metabolic conditions people are born with, ensuring patients get the right care.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, we are looking for a Production & Repairs Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on role working on the build, test, and repair of our instruments ensuring they meet our high-quality standards.

Essential Duties

  • Build & Assemble Instruments: Assemble parts following clear step by step instructions. Carry out mechanical and electrical assembly work ensuring work area is organised and follows safety and quality guidelines.
  • Test & Check Performance: Run tests to ensure each instrument performs correctly. Follow set procedures to check key functions used in accurate amino testing. Record test results clearly and report any problems.
  • Quality & Documentation: Complete all build, test and repair documentation accurately. Help investigate repeating issues and suggest improvements. Support continuous improvement across the operations area.
  • General Workshop Support: Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area to support smooth daily operations. Ensure tools, equipment, and workstations are kept in good condition. Assist with handling parts and components, including organising stock used in production and repairs. Work closely with colleagues across Production, Quality and Service teams to keep workflows running efficiently.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within a production, assembly, repair or similar hands-on role
  • Confident using hand tools and basic test equipment
  • Able to follow instructions and keep accurate records
  • Strong attention to detail and a careful, methodical approach
  • Good communication and a positive, team focused attitude
  • Good level of I.T skills

Desirable

  • Experience with electronic or electro-mechanical products
  • Background in lab instruments, medical devices, or fluid handling equipment
  • Experience in quality controlled or regulated environments
  • Basic troubleshooting or root cause analysis skills
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g. electrical, electronic, mechanical)
