THE OPPORTUNITY

Harvard Bioscience is currently seeking a (Senior) Buyer in our Reutlingen office to support our expanding production footprint and growing demand for our solutions. The (Senior) Buyer will play a key role in ensuring reliable material availability and supply continuity by managing procurement activities, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and working closely with suppliers. This position involves a broad range of responsibilities across purchasing operations and contributes directly to the successful execution of our growth strategy.

Essential Job Functions

  • Independent ordering of production materials, trading goods, and consumables
  • Maintenance of supplier master data, prices, and terms and conditions in ERP systems
  • Delivery date tracking (lead time monitoring) and proactive coordination with suppliers
  • Processing of order confirmations, discrepancies, and delivery delays
  • Support of production planning by ensuring material availability
  • Handling of complaints in collaboration with quality assurance and suppliers
  • Support in supplier evaluations and analyses
  • Creation and maintenance of reports, analyses, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Close collaboration with supply chain, production, quality, engineering, and logistics
  • Participation in the onboarding of new suppliers and materials

skills and abilities required

  • Basic understanding of technical drawings and bills of materials is an advantage
  • Experience with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics AX or a comparable system
  • Confident user of MS Office, especially Excel
  • Very good German language skills, both written and spoken; good English skills
  • Structured, independent, and reliable working style
  • Strong hands-on mentality as well as teamwork and communication skills
  • Intercultural competence and enjoyment of working with international partners

Bonus skills and experience

  • At least 2–4 years of professional experience in purchasing or a comparable role
  • Experience working with suppliers, ideally in an international environment

Education and Experience and/or equivalent

  • Completed commercial apprenticeship or comparable qualification

Physical demands

  • Minimal physical demands; primarily sedentary office work.

  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier visits, primarily within Germany or Europe.
