Logo Design Brief
Roots of Peace is a US-based NGO that builds agricultural trade systems in economically fragile regions. We have an approved logo concept (see attached) and need a professional vector version with specific refinements.
About the current concept: The logo features a tree with prominent roots at the top of the lockup, with "Roots" as the dominant word and the tree canopy below with "of Peace." Wordmark font is Playfair Display — this is locked, do not substitute.
Refinements needed:
Canopy edge: Soften the flat bottom edge of the tree canopy. Round the two lower corners or create a gentle organic curve. The current straight edge reads as jarring against the otherwise organic design. We still want a sense of structure — just not a hard straight line.
Visual flow (key creative element): Add organic vein-like lines in gold running continuously from the roots, through the trunk, and up into the canopy. Think leaf vascular structure, not geometric. These represent the connective system flowing through the whole tree and should create visual motion and unity between the two halves of the logo.
The gold lines running from the roots through the tree represent our operational model — a connected system from ground to market. I want the viewer's eye to follow that flow all the way through. Right now it stops inside the leaf. I need something subtle at the upper right of the canopy that shows the system completing — the output, not just the input.
Color: Two-color palette — deep green (#314D2F) and gold (#D2A028). Gold is used for the root elements and the vein lines running upward into the canopy.
Single-color versions must work. The vein detail needs to survive in black-only and white-only. If there's a trade-off between vein detail and single-color clarity, prioritize clarity.
Scalability: Must read cleanly at small sizes (email signature, social avatar) and large sizes (event signage, deck cover).
Style direction: Organic but structured. The logo should feel alive and rooted, not corporate or decorative. We're an agricultural organization that operates with the discipline of a business — the design should reflect both. Avoid generic NGO imagery (globes, hands, abstract leaves). Avoid corporate/banking aesthetics. Closest reference point is a well-designed agricultural cooperative or premium food brand — credible and grounded, not slick.
Deliverables: Vector files (AI and SVG), PNG exports at standard sizes, and single-color versions (black, white, reversed).
If You Want a Clean Build Path
Tell your designer to follow this sequence:
1. Fix canopy silhouette first
2. Redesign root structure (fewer, more intentional)
3. Establish central trunk flow
4. Add primary veins only
5. Test at small size
6. Add secondary veins only if it survives
7. Finalize color + mono versions
Target Market(s)
Foundations, family offices, major global aid funders
