Logo Design Brief

About Us

The Early Learning Center (ELC) is the newest school in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, serving our youngest learners before they begin elementary school. Our students are preschool-aged children, and our school is built around creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and joyful first school experience.

Following extensive community engagement and multiple surveys, our community selected the Owl as the mascot that best represents our values.

We are looking for a modern, friendly mascot and logo that will become the school's long-term identity.

Design Goals

The logo should communicate:

Curiosity
Learning
Wonder
Creativity
Safety
Kindness
Inclusion
Growth
Confidence
Joy

This should feel like a place where children are excited to learn and families immediately feel welcomed.

The Owl

We are not looking for a fierce, intimidating, or athletic owl.

Instead, we want an owl that is:

Friendly
Curious
Approachable
Intelligent
Playful
Gentle
Expressive
Child-friendly

The owl should appeal to preschool-aged children while still looking polished enough to represent the school for many years.

Avoid making it look like a sports mascot.

Style

We are looking for a design that is:

Modern
Simple
Clean
Bright
Whimsical
Energetic
Memorable

It should be easy to recognize from a distance and reproduce well in a variety of sizes.

The logo should work equally well on:

School signage
T-shirts
Staff apparel
Student clothing
Websites
Social media
Printed materials
Stickers
Letterhead

Please avoid excessive detail that may be lost when the logo is reproduced at smaller sizes.

Color Palette

Preferred colors include but not limited to:

Green
Blue
Yellow

These colors were selected by our community because they reflect nature, growth, learning, and optimism.

Designers may incorporate white or neutral accent colors as needed.

Inspiration

Our community consistently identified the following themes:

Nature
Trees
Forest
The Snoqualmie Valley
Mount Si
Learning through play
Exploration
Curiosity
Growth

The logo does not need to include trees or mountains, but subtle references are welcome if they strengthen the design without making it feel cluttered.

District Branding

This logo should feel like it belongs within the Snoqualmie Valley School District family of schools.

While it should have its own unique personality, it should maintain a clean, timeless look that complements our existing school logos rather than feeling disconnected from them.

Deliverables

Please provide:

Full-color logo
One-color version
Black-and-white version
Horizontal and stacked layouts
Vector artwork (AI, EPS, or SVG)
Transparent PNG
What We Want to Avoid

Please avoid:

Aggressive or angry expressions
Sports-style mascot logos
Cartoon styles that feel too juvenile
Clip art or stock artwork
Overly detailed illustrations
Dark or muted color palettes
Designs that rely heavily on text effects or gradients
Overall Vision

Imagine a logo that a 4-year-old immediately loves, a parent immediately trusts, and a teacher is proud to wear. It should capture the excitement of a child's first school experience while reflecting a lifelong love of learning.
