Logo Design Brief
We are CRC 1767 "PAPER", a Collaborative Research Center at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 19 subprojects, researchers from natural sciences and engineering work together to turn paper into a high-tech material with tailor-made properties, e.g. for soft robotics, sensors and construction materials.
We need a logo for our website, posters, slides and publications. It should look clean and scientific and still work at small sizes. Please deliver vector files.
We need two versions of the same logo: "CRC 1767" (English) and "SFB 1767" (German abbreviation for "Sonderforschungsbereich"). Only the text changes, the design stays the same. The attached PDF gives some inspiration:
The title page of our proposal, with microscopy images of paper fibers. We like its dark blue, bright green and grey tones and think these colors could be reflected in the logo.
Graphics from our proposal: the triangles showing our research on interfacial, fluidic and mechanical properties, as well as the fiber network and the hierarchy from cellulose to paper.
On the last page, the logo of an earlier CRC we were part of (CRC/SFB 1194), to give you an idea of what such a logo could look like. CRC 1194 studied how liquids wet surfaces and how this interacts with flow and transport.
We hope the PDF gives you a feel for our visual style so far. Feel free to borrow ideas from it, or go your own way.
And last but not least: the logo does not have to be round, and we would advise against using a paper roll as a design element. In our experience, it always ends up looking like toilet paper ;-)
