Context: What is BioSEE?
BioSEE is a French public research laboratory focused on major health-related societal challenges. It works to address current health challenges in countries of the Global South and the Global North. Its ambition is to co-produce and share knowledge essential to developing health prevention and protection strategies. BioSEE is also committed to training the scientists of tomorrow so they can respond sustainably to the changing landscape of health in a world in transition.
At BioSEE, our research focuses on the processes and mechanisms underlying the emergence, re-emergence, persistence and spread of diseases. We study the ecology and evolution of infectious agents and vectors, as well as their interactions within ecosystems. Bringing together ecology, evolutionary and fundamental biology, epidemiology and medicine—and drawing on genetics, modelling, and the social sciences and humanities—we use distinctly multidisciplinary approaches to generate new knowledge. Our strength lies in the diversity of the biological systems we study: vectors (mosquitoes, ticks, molluscs, sandflies, etc.); viruses (arboviruses, papillomaviruses, phages, etc.); bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, Borrelia, Leptospira, etc.); eukaryotic pathogens (Fasciola, Plasmodium, Leishmania, etc.); cancers; and hosts (humans, domestic animals and wildlife).
The knowledge we generate is intended to inform practical measures to prevent and manage threats to human, animal and environmental health. This integrated approach is grounded in the development of long-term scientific partnerships in both the Global North and the Global South. Through these partnerships, we work to co-create excellent research that combines training, knowledge-sharing and the strengthening of local infrastructure.

Proposed visual identity guidelines
BioSEE’s visual identity should express the laboratory’s three dimensions—Health Biology, Ecology and Evolution—while reflecting the diversity of its research, from fundamental science to operational applications, and its multidisciplinary approach.

Objectives
Create a contemporary, scientific and readily identifiable visual identity grounded in the concepts of living systems, interaction, diversity and evolution. The identity should represent the wide range of BioSEE’s research without being associated with any particular organism, disease or discipline. It should function as a cohesive visual system, spanning the logo, website, scientific presentations and team materials.

Logo and variations
BioSEE is looking for a primarily typographic logo featuring the highly legible acronym “BioSEE.” It should be paired with an abstract symbol that evokes interaction, living systems and evolution rather than any particular organism. The complete logo—typography and symbol—should work across a range of formats, including email and printed correspondence, websites, social media and posters.
An additional version should also be proposed, combining the typographic logo, the full name of BioSEE and the symbol. Two versions are required: one in French, with the name Biologie de la Santé, Écologie et Évolution; and one in English, with the name Health Biology, Ecology and Evolution.
