Role Summary

We're seeking a skilled Linux Platform Engineer to design, develop, and maintain GTT Linux platforms. The ideal candidate will focus on optimizing platform performance, capacity, and security while maintaining cost efficiency. This role involves fulfilling business requirements related to technology strategy and supporting operational needs. Occasional support for complex incident troubleshooting and problem management may be required.

Job Scope/Supervision

The successful candidate should have a broad understanding of complex hosting solutions, including DC infrastructure, operating systems, applications, and cloud trends. A high level of process understanding is essential for continuous optimization of systems and processes supporting storage platforms, such as monitoring, reporting, and automation. Strong communication skills are crucial for engaging with other business areas and vendors, as well as documenting platforms and training engineering and operations teams when needed.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement strategies for Linux environments across data centers

- Serve as a technical escalation point for Incident and Problem Management

- Create and maintain platform documentation in compliance with GTT's ITIL approach and various certifications (ISO 27001, ISO 2000, PCI DSS, BSI)

- Ensure knowledge transfer across operations and engineering teams

- Conduct technical audits to verify adherence to customer and platform standards

- Perform ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization

- Produce and maintain monthly license usage reports

- Apply ITIL methodology and follow best practice standards and processes

- Adhere to GTT security policies and report incidents as appropriate

- Contribute to the Continual Process Improvement (CPI) program

- Work on assigned tasks and projects as directed by management

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience deploying, configuring, and managing Linux systems

- Proficiency in at least two of the following:

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux

- SUSE Enterprise Linux

- Other Linux distributions (e.g., CentOS, Ubuntu)

- Familiarity with Linux monitoring strategies and clustered environments

- Working knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, VMware, Hyper-V)

- Understanding of complex hosting solutions

Preferred Qualifications (Any combination of the following is a plus)

- Experience with cloud orchestration software (e.g., Apache CloudStack, OpenStack)

- Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell)

- Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)

- Familiarity with storage solutions (e.g., NetApp)

- Experience with Windows operating systems

- Understanding of IP networking concepts

- Knowledge of hosting hardware (e.g., HP, Dell servers and blades)

- Experience in an operations environment managing customer escalations

- Understanding of telecom and ISP services (e.g., DNS, Email, shared hosting)

- Familiarity with ITIL framework and Agile methodologies
