Itron is a provider of electric and gas forecasting consulting services, training, and software. Our clients include gas and electric utilities, Autonomous System Operators, transmission companies, and retail energy providers. We provide software and forecasting support to companies in North America, Europe, Australia, and South Asia. Our forecast work includes everything from 5-minute real time forecast systems for electric grid operation to forecasts that extend as far as 30-year out to support long-term electric load capacity planning. Working with a team of energy forecasting experts, you will help us with providing data analysis, predictive analytics/statistical modeling, training, and presentations to support a global client base.

As part of our Forecasting Solutions Team, you will play a critical part in supporting, implementing, and enhancing our long-term distribution forecasting applications and other related forecasting products. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative energy forecasting solutions, collaborate directly with clients, and gain hands-on experience in statistical modeling, data analysis, and software configuration.

Your work will primarily involve organizing, analyzing, and manipulating large datasets, assisting with the development and deployment of software solutions, and providing direct support to clients. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys solving complex data problems, and demonstrates exceptional attention to detail. This role offers a unique blend of technical guidance, client interaction, and the chance to contribute to impactful energy forecasting projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Forecast Specialist, you will:

  • Assist in the testing, deployment, and support of new and existing software modules.

  • Develop and enhance processes for organizing, analyzing, and manipulating large datasets.

  • Support the development of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) adoption and load shape models.

  • Collaborate with clients to provide support for software implementations, including configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Conduct statistical analysis and assist in the development of multivariate regression models for forecasting purposes.

  • Present analytical findings, results, and training materials to clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Contribute to forecasting workshops, conferences, and other client-facing initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to create and deliver professional presentations.

  • Experience working with time series data and related analysis techniques.

  • Proficiency with code-based statistical modeling tools (e.g., Python, R, SAS).

  • Demonstrated ability to work self-sufficiency and as part of a small team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on data accuracy and quality.

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, data science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related field, or equivalent job experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in economics, data science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field.

  • Coursework or practical experience in econometrics, statistics, calculus, and economic theory.

  • Experience in database management, including migration and maintenance tasks.

  • Familiarity with energy markets, forecasting models, or DER planning.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location.

San Diego, CA: The base salary is $84,000 - $161,000.
