The Distributed Intelligence (DI) team is looking for a 2026 summer intern. DI from Itron helps utilities achieve a new level of distribution system visibility by combining granular data from the grid’s edge with an open-enterprise application platform. Your work will help Itron push the boundaries on grid optimization, asset management, DER integration and customer engagement.

Duration

40 hours per week, for 10 weeks during summer 2026. The target start is May/June, and the internship concludes August/September, depending on student academic schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Data Preparation: Clean and prepare moderate- to large-sized datasets (10s to 100s of GB) for analysis, algorithm development, and production purposes

• Data Analysis: Collaborate with senior team members and subject matter experts on exploratory data analysis (EDA) and clearly communicate the findings to relevant stakeholders

• Algorithm Research: Support the development and refinement of new Machine Learning models under the guidance of senior team members

• Engineering: Maintain and build data and/or production ML pipelines

• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product line managers and stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

• Education: Enrolled in a related accredited bachelor's degree program (preference: STEM degree, statistics, data science, software engineering etc.) with completion of at least two years of college courses

• Intermediate experience with SQL and Python

• Experience with statistical methods and data analysis

• Exposure to machine learning via classes, independent projects, or work experience

• Professional workplace communication skills

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Related internship or work experience

• Experience working with AWS or Azure

• Enrolled in a related master’s degree program (preference: STEM degree, statistics, data science, software engineering etc.)

• Familiarity with Machine learning libraries like scikit-learn and XGBoost

This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.

This position will be tied to our Liberty Lake, WA location with hybrid work flexibility of 1-3 days on-site per week.

Liberty Lake, WA: $15.87 - $44.23 per hour
