We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Performance Test Engineer to enhance our technology capabilities and drive innovation in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. In this role, you will ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of Itron’s next-generation Advanced Metering Platform—an essential component of our smart grid and IoT ecosystem. Your work will directly impact millions of connected devices across customer deployments, shaping the future of smart infrastructure.
You will collaborate in a modern development environment using a modern technology stack, including Oracle, Splunk, Java JVM, Linux, ELK, Azure, AWS, and more. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to solutions that create a more resourceful world.
Responsibilities
Review requirements, specifications, and design documents to provide constructive, timely feedback on performance and scalability.
Define acceptance criteria where specifications lack sufficient detail.
Collaborate with developers on high-level design to ensure performance considerations are integrated early.
Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases.
Organize and update existing test cases to maintain clarity and avoid duplication.
Develop and maintain automated test scripts for performance monitoring.
Conduct performance testing to validate resource sizing (memory, CPU, IOPS) in SaaS and Cloud environments.
Execute experimental tests using varied product settings (threads, queue sizes, consumers, producers) to identify optimal configurations.
Diagnose performance issues such as bottlenecks, memory leaks, and unoptimized SQL statements using tools like Oracle reports, Splunk, and performance metrics.
Collaborate closely with development teams to identify, monitor, resolve, and validate performance issues across complex enterprise environments.
Requirements
7+ years of rich experience in testing of large, multi-component software products
Experience with application cloud deployment and configuration (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Experience using data gathering and troubleshooting tools, such as Splunk or ELK
Deep understanding of Java JVM, including garbage collection, GC logs, and tuning concepts
Ability to work in a Linux environment
A passion for product performance, scalability, and quality, with a "prevent it, instead of break it" attitude
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to quality and scalability.
Ability to communicate technical performance concepts clearly across diverse teams.
Nice to have
Experience with APM products, such as AppDynamics, DataDog, Elastic
Working knowledge of containerization software products, such as Docker and Kubernetes
