Role Summary

The role of the 3GPP/O-RAN Base Station Conformance & Performance Test Engineer is to validate the RF performance of in-house and third-party 4G/5G Open Radio Access Networks (ORAN) compliant radios integrated with the Mavenir RAN based on the defined specifications to uncover, investigate, and resolve defects and to characterize system performance. This position is in the RAN Systems division and has a specific focus on the interaction between the L1 (PHY) layer of the RAN and the radio unit (RU). The role requires strong RF knowledge, familiarity with testing methodologies, the ability to understand and interpret specifications, hands-on lab design and development, and experience using RF test tools such as signal analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, channel emulators, etc.

The work location is in Richardson, Texas and could involve working with test and development engineers across sites. It offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced wireless technology in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with internal and external teams to setup and configure the Device-Under-Test (DUT) which includes radio units and subsystems with Layer 1 functionality which interoperate as defined in the O-RAN standard
  • Configuring and testing with Keysight or Rohde & Schwarz VSA & VSG tools to perform Tx & Rx test model verification of various channels as defined in Chapters 6, 7 & 8 of 3GPP 36-141 (4G) and 38-141 (5G)
  • Understanding and configuring test scenarios and building lab setups based on 3GPP definitions
  • Capturing and analyzing logs in support of R&D and cross functional teams during issue identification and triage
  • Developing and executing test plans, test procedures and test setups to validate that products meet performance goals defined by specifications, internal requirements, and customer expectations
  • Utilizing and expanding capabilities of Intel’s TestMAC tool (L2 stub emulator) which interfaces with L1 and provides Tx test vector generation and analysis of & Rx signals to support Radio Qualification
  • Supporting test automation
