Overview:
We have a great opportunity for an aspiring Junior AI Engineer to support the AI team in the development and deployment of our AI-driven products and solutions. This is an entry-level role focused on learning and developing foundational skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will assist with coding, data preparation, and testing, gaining the hands-on experience needed to grow into a key contributor.
This role will be based from our Newcastle head office with a hybrid working arrangement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, testing, and maintenance of ML models under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Learn how to translate business problems into technical requirements for AI/ML solutions.
- Support the team in building and maintaining data pipelines and model deployment workflows.
- Learn and apply MLOps best practices to assist with the AI development lifecycle.
- Assist in creating clear documentation for code, models, and operational procedures.
- Support the team in testing for AI performance, fairness, and ethical considerations.
- Learn and apply security best practices to help safeguard AI systems and data.
- Actively participate in team meetings and communicate progress on assigned tasks.
- Receive mentorship from senior engineers and architects to grow technical skills.
Experience Requirements
- A foundational knowledge of software engineering principles and a demonstrated interest in AI/ML through personal projects or coursework.
- Basic understanding of containerization concepts (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with different database types, including relational and NoSQL.
- Proficiency in Python and exposure to common AI/ML frameworks.
- A strong willingness to learn about data ingestion, automation tools, and agentic workflows.
- An interest in learning about MLOps and the end-to-end software development lifecycle.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science or a related technical/quantitative field.
- 1 year + of experience, including internships or significant academic AI projects.
- Demonstrated passion for software development and a strong interest in AI/ML through personal or academic projects.
