Job Overview
We are seeking a Component & ECAD Library Engineer to support new product development (NPI) and sustaining engineering through managing components and ECAD libraries. This role is responsible for component engineering activities, including component selection, Approved Vendor List (AVL) and lifecycle risk management, as well as the creation, maintenance, and validation of schematic symbols, PCB footprints, and 3D models. The engineer will work closely with Hardware, PCB Layout, Procurement, Component, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to ensure high-quality component data, library integrity, and efficient product development.
Responsibilities
Component Engineering:
- Select, evaluate components based on technical, environmental, and application requirements.
- Assign and manage component part numbers in accordance with the Company PN scheme.
- Maintain Approved Vendor Lists (AVL) accuracy and compliance while driving component standardization and alternate sourcing initiatives.
- Align component selection with business strategy, including PML (Preferred Manufacturer List), supply continuity, and standardization goals.
- Monitor component lifecycle (Active, NRND, EOL) and manage PCN/obsolescence impact.
- Support component risk mitigation through multi-sourcing, last-time buys, and redesign activities.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements (e.g., RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals).
- Perform BOM scrubbing to proactively identify lifecycle, obsolescence, and compliance risks.
- Support NPI and collaborate with design, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers on component-related issues.
- Maintain accurate component data and documentation in PLM/SAP systems.
ECAD Library Management:
- Create and maintain schematic symbols, PCB footprints in accordance with IPC standards and company guidelines.
- Support 3D model creation for PCB components.
- Verify library accuracy through reviews, quality checks, and validation before library release.
- Maintain ECAD library standards, naming conventions and documentation.
- Work with cross-functional engineering teams to understand component requirements and ensure library consistency.
- Review manufacturer datasheets to develop accurate library components.
- Resolve library-related issues encountered during schematic capture and PCB layout design.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance ECAD library quality, standardization and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Component Engineer and ECAD librarian.
- Strong knowledge of EEE components with the ability to interpret datasheets, PCNs, and reliability data.
- Familiarity with AVL management, component lifecycle, and obsolescence management process.
- Experience in BOM analysis or scrubbing for risk identification.
- Experience with PLM/ SAP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and data management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Silicon Expert, HIS or other data analysis tools.
- Familiar with Cadence Allegro/ Orcad or equivalent EDA tools.
- Experience with 2D/ 3D CAD tools is an advantage.
