Location Stevenage, GB Job ID REQ-053259We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Research Technician to build their career and support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services at one of our Customer sites in Stevenage.
The successful candidate will join the Molecular Modalities Capabilities (MMC) group. This group provides the frontline technology and automation platform for all High Throughput Chemistry users within Medicinal Chemistry with the remit to organize, manufacture, and train on our high throughput reaction experimentation platform.
This role will provide support for operating, maintaining, and conducting experimentation on MMCs high throughput chemistry platforms from reaction screening to large parallel arrays.
The successful candidate will work within a collaborative team environment across diverse biotherapeutic portfolio within the company and have the opportunity to develop in PerkinElmer’s scientific arena.
Operational Duties
Medium and high complexity experiment set-up, execution, and processing for reaction development and parallel array chemistries.
Independently conduct chemistries on behalf of program team members
Maintain MMC Inventory and manufacture reaction screening kits as appropriate.
Utilization automation platforms and ensure optimal performance while serving as a group co-owner for selected equipment.
Conduct routine validation on reaction kits
Train chemists in Medicinal Chemistry on lab execution of parallel synthesis techniques as needed
Serve as MMC group liaison to GSK Consumables Team to ensure group inventory needs are met and communicate key messages back to the MMC group.
Develop and maintain a proactive chemical inventory system in the lab.
Act as a point of contact for service vendors when needed
Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of laboratory automation as it applies to synthetic chemistry applications.
Leverage the expertise and experience of the network of scientists and the wider scientific community.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with all SOPs and GSK instructions
Support process improvement projects related to service deliverables and as approved by manager
Preferred Education/Experience/Qualifications
B.Sc. or equivalent in relevant scientific subject e.g. Chemistry, Engineering or Life Sciences.
1 year of experience in laboratory automation and lab instrumentation support.
Basic understanding and laboratory experience of organic chemistry.
Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Adept at learning new software and hardware protocols
Understanding of standard software packages (i.e.: Microsoft Office)
Highly motivated and independent, yet able to work well in a group setting.
Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality, consistent results in a timely fashion.
Ability to meet timelines successfully with the utmost attention to detail while setting high performance standards.
Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data.
Ability to execute new and established methods and protocols.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
Working Environment
Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment.
Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
Employee maybe required to manage hazardous wastes in compliance with company procedures & State/Federal/Local hazardous waste regulations. Duties may include: Identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, labelling.
Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately.
Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
