Job Responsibilities

  • Recover, maintain, and freeze down primary, mammalian and specialised cell lines (suspension and adherent) to be used in biological assay work.

  • Adherence to good aseptic technique when operating in a cell culture environment.

  • Supply cells for ad-hoc and routine requests within established timelines.

  • Involvement in transient transfections and luminescence assays, including protocol preparation and maintenance of electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN).

  • Maintenance and preparation of consumables, reagents and media.

  • Be an active member of the scientific teams – contribute at team meetings and look for opportunities for innovation.

  • Assist with the preparation of SOPs, Risk Assessments and best practice guides. Health and Safety procedures

  • To act as an ambassador for TLS and to promote PerkinElmer’s core values.

  • Operate to approved quality standards.

  • Work independently and flexibly depending on team priorities and to set realistic work schedules to support requirements.

  • Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.

Qualifications/Experience

  • BSc in relevant scientific subject (e.g. Biology, Biotechnology, or Biomedical Sciences) with relevant laboratory experience.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of cell culture, cell lines, primary cells, and aseptic technique.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a laboratory environment.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office, including Excel.

  • Highly motivated, with the ability to work both independently and in a group setting.

  • Ability to work independently to organise work schedule to meet timelines successfully and deliver high quality and consistent results.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain good working relationships and clear communication with the teams we support.

Non-essential, but preferred skills/experience

  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate scientific data.

  • Design and execute new and established methods and protocols.

  • Maintain an electronic laboratory notebook and present at team/project meetings.

  • Proactive in seeking opportunities to develop the TLS service.

  • Experience with transient transfections.

  • Assay experience.

Physical Demands

The overall physical exertion of this position requires:

  • Sit or stand 4-5 hours in laboratory areas.

  • Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery.

  • Work with biohazards such as blood borne pathogens.

  • All work is carried out in a containment level 2 environment.

  • Appropriate PPE must always be worn (Lab coat, gloves, eye protection).

  • Reach above/below the shoulder, bend at the knees and waist.

  • Office work activities, including keyboard, up to 2-3 hours.
