We’re looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Junior Customer Service Engineer to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a technical or scientific background who’s eager to learn about laboratory and analytical equipment, gain field experience, and build a career in laboratory equipment engineering.

You’ll be part of a supportive team that helps customers keep their instruments and lab systems running smoothly. You’ll learn how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of equipment while developing your technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide first-line support for customer equipment issues – identifying problems and helping determine the best solution.

  • Assist with installations, moves, calibrations, routine maintenance of laboratory instruments.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and ensure their equipment is running reliably and safely.

  • Assist customers with managing their lab equipment inventory using our digital tools and customer portal – ensuring records are accurate and maintenance schedules are up to date.

  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers or OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) when needed.

  • Keep accurate service logs and documentation of all maintenance, repair, and calibration activities.

  • Support customers with basic training on how to use and care for their equipment.

  • Maintain service tools, spare parts, and test equipment.

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with company and customer health and safety policies.

  • Participate in ongoing training to develop your technical expertise and industry knowledge.

What We’re Looking For

  • A passion for technology, engineering, or laboratory equipment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a curiosity to learn how things work.

  • Good communication skills – you’ll be working closely with customers and team members.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in lab or technical environments.

  • Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, or scientific principles (we’ll train you on the rest!).

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail when documenting work.

  • Comfortable using computers for service reports and basic data entry.

Education & Experience

  • Preferred: Associate or degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, or related discipline.

  • Or: Equivalent technical or hands-on experience with a keen interest in engineering and laboratory technology.

Location

This role is currently based at UCB Slough. In the future, operations will move to Windlesham, and regular travel to that site will be required.
