Job Description Summary

The Transition Manager is responsible for leading the relocation of PerkinElmer’s OneSource laboratory support program from Waltham, MA to the new Cambridge, MA facility. While the physical relocation of equipment is not managed by PerkinElmer, this role manages all phases of the transition, including planning, logistics, coordination of assets, vendor engagement, and communication with stakeholders, to ensure a compliant, efficient transfer of laboratory operations and services. The Transition Manager partners closely with internal teams, vendors, and customer stakeholders to maintain post move service continuity for customer laboratory assets while preparing the new site for operational readiness and BAU

Key Responsibilities

Program Continuity & Readiness

  • Maintain all OneSource business-as-usual (BAU) operations during the transition, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery across Waltham and Cambridge.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs through onsite engineers and OEM partners to ensure all assets remain compliant and operational through the transition.
  • Collaborate with Ellab and site stakeholders to track instrument status (decommissioned, relocated, reinstalled, or retired) without assuming physical relocation duties.
  • Verify equipment placement, functionality, and readiness after relocation before returning instruments to service.
  • Conduct validation checks and maintain documentation to confirm instruments are operationally and compliance-ready.
  • Partner with safety, quality, and facilities teams to ensure the new labs meet operational, compliance, and safety standards prior to scientific activity.
  • Oversee instrument onboarding and data reconciliation into the OneSource Digital Platform for the new site.

Project Coordination & Communication

  • Manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables that align with customer and relocation vendor schedules.
  • Represent PerkinElmer within relocation steering and coordination meetings, providing operational updates, risk assessments, and readiness reports.
  • Maintain transparent communication with customer stakeholders, engineers, and service vendors regarding transition impacts and status updates.
  • Ensure all records, documentation, and asset data are accurately updated in approved systems (ServiceMax, SAP, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Develop contingency and risk-mitigation plans to minimize disruption to ongoing scientific operations.

Stakeholder & Vendor Partnership

  • Act as the primary liaison between PerkinElmer, AstraZeneca, Ellab, and OEM service providers to maintain clear accountability and workflow alignment.
  • Oversee OEM and third-party service scheduling to ensure preventive and corrective maintenance activities are not delayed or missed.
  • Coordinate with procurement and sourcing teams to align contract entitlements, renewals, and equipment lifecycle data.
  • Support communication with scientists, lab managers, and other stakeholders on lab readiness, service updates, and equipment status.

Operational Excellence & Post-Move Stabilization

  • Lead the re-establishment of full operational capability at the Cambridge site post-move, prioritizing uptime and research continuity.
  • Monitor service performance metrics, identify gaps, and implement process improvements to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure proper handoff of stabilized operations to steady-state OneSource teams after post-move validation and readiness are achieved.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and proactive problem-solving within the team.

Critical Skills

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with ability to manage operations across multiple locations.
  • Proven experience in laboratory service management, OEM coordination, or multi-site project support.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface effectively between technical teams, vendors, and client stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, maintenance practices, and regulatory requirements (GLP/GxP).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and enterprise tools such as ServiceMax, SAP, or Smartsheet.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking to ensure data integrity and operational compliance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Business with 2+ years of project management or operations experience; or
  • Associate’s degree with 4+ years of experience in laboratory operations, coordination, or technical services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing laboratory maintenance programs and coordinating OEM/vendor services.
  • Prior involvement in laboratory transitions, new site activations, or complex operational projects.
  • Familiarity with asset and inventory management systems (ServiceMax, SAP, CISPro).
  • PMP or equivalent project management training preferred.

Working Environment

  • Work performed in laboratory and controlled environments requiring PPE (lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Job pace may be fast with high completion demands during transition phases.
  • Frequent movement between labs and adjoining areas required.
  • Occasionally lift-up to 25 lbs (poten tial up to 50 lbs).
  • Potential exposure to lab hazards including hazardous chemicals and biological materials.

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $100,000to $110,00-. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
