Position: Vice President Engineering - CAD

Reports to: John Haller, General Manager PLM

Location: Cambridge, UK

The Vice President Engineering - CAD will contribute to PTC’s PLM engineering organization responsible for designing and delivering innovative products that support our customers across Industrial, Automotive, Electronics & High Tech, Aerospace & Defense, and Medical Device sectors. This executive will help shape the long-term R&D vision, drive technology strategy, and deliver customer-focused innovation across a $700M+ PLM portfolio, advancing PTC’s leadership in product lifecycle management.

This leader will inspire a high-performing and highly innovative engineering team to deliver targeted. quality, and differentiated products that meet customer needs, fuel growth, and reinforce PTC’s reputation as a trusted innovation partner.

Key Responsibilities

R&D Strategy & Execution

· Lead engineering execution to deliver world-class products (e.g., Windchill enhancements, cloud-native PLM and collaboration capabilities, integrations with IoT/AR/AI).

· Champion agile and modern development practices, ensuring quality, velocity, and customer impact.

· Monitor emerging technologies and competitive and integrate insights into the product roadmap.

Innovation & Customer Value

· Deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions that address business-critical challenges across global industries.

· Leverage AI/ML to drive product differentiation, predictive analytics, automation, and enhanced customer value.

· Foster a culture of experimentation, technical excellence, and rapid iteration, balancing risk with disciplined execution.

· Establish strong partnerships with Product Management, Services, and Customer Success to ensure R&D priorities are tightly aligned to market needs.

Organizational Leadership

· Build organizational capacity, ensuring the right talent, skills, and leadership pipeline are in place for future growth.

· Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable culture that values diversity of thought and experience.

· Remove barriers to performance by streamlining processes, systems, and metrics.

· Partner with Product, Sales, Marketing, and Strategy to align R&D investments with business goals.

· Ensure clear communication of vision, priorities, and progress to internal stakeholders and external audiences.

· Contribute as a senior enterprise leader to PTC’s strategic decision-making.

Required Qualifications

· Education: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field. MS or PhD is a plus.

· 20+ years in software engineering and product development, with at least 10 years in progressive global leadership roles.

· Proven track record leading R&D for enterprise software, ideally within PLM, CAD, industrial technology, or adjacent enterprise SaaS domains.

· Demonstrated expertise in applying AI/ML technologies (e.g., generative AI, predictive analytics, intelligent automation) to accelerate product innovation and customer outcomes.

· Success delivering complex, large-scale software products and driving measurable customer and business impact.

· Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of PLM, CAD and adjacent markets (IoT, AR, SaaS enterprise software)
