Position Summary
The Principal Software Engineer is a senior technical engineer who blends architectural ownership with direct engineering. They drive the design and optimization of complex CAD subsystems, act as a mentor to peers, and ensure solutions scale and meet customer needs. This role works closely with colleagues in other PTC locations to share patterns, align approaches, and drive innovation across the global engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Development: Architect, design, and implement high-impact CAD functionality, geometry kernels, and APIs; develop and maintain scalable, resilient SaaS and PLM/PDM integrations (e.g., BOM, engineering change management).

• Code Ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of critical modules—writing production-quality code, profiling and optimizing algorithms, and ensuring clean, testable, and maintainable solutions.

• Testing & Quality: Design, develop, and execute test plans to validate solutions (CAD, PLM, SaaS), ensuring functionality, scalability, and performance meet specifications.

• Collaboration: Partner with Product Management, UX, and other global engineering teams to define specifications, influence long-term technical strategy, and ensure design consistency across platforms.

• Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and participate in design and code reviews, setting high standards for clarity, maintainability, security, and scalability; mentor engineers of all levels, encouraging technical depth and creative problem-solving.

• Innovation & Agility: Work in an Agile environment, exploring new concepts and technologies to enhance our technical direction, standards, and developer experience.

• Support & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve high-impact production or customer issues quickly and effectively.

Skills & Knowledge

• Deep proficiency in C++ (modern standards) and strong computational geometry or 3D mathematics skills.

• Solid understanding of Java, Spring frameworks, and modern design patterns.

• Experience developing scalable SaaS services, microservices/SOA, and RESTful APIs.

• Comfortable working with cloud technologies, distributed systems, and geographically diverse teams.

• Familiarity with database technologies (MongoDB preferred) and JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS or similar).

• Passion for writing clean, testable, and scalable code with an eye toward maintainability and security.

• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership across multiple projects and teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in technical leadership roles.

• Experience with CAD/CAM software product development and PLM/PDM integrations.

• Proven track record of delivering high-quality, production-ready software in Agile environments.
