Be part of the QinetiQ journey. Join us as a Group Lead in Data Science & Engineering at our Farnborough or Malvern site where you will be ensuring that an Agile and efficient capability is established, maintained and developed in order to meet the performance objectives of QinetiQ.

The Role
As a Group Lead you will lead a Group which is split between Farnborough and Malvern serving the growing UK Defence and UK Intelligence businesses which is expected to comprise of 4 teams.

Day to day you will be responsible for:

• Strategy: Working with the Engineering Director and Head of Discipline, responsible for the definition and execution of the QinetiQ Data Science and Engineering strategy and harmonising this with other related Data strategies being developed across QinetiQ and its subsidiaries.
• Capability: Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate Data Science and Engineering capability for the short and long term requirements of the business.
• Capacity: Collaborating with key leaders across QinetiQ to ensure that the capacity of the group matches the demand for the Data Science and Engineering skills.
• Culture: Developing an effective environment that facilitates vibrant and collaborative QinetiQ Data Science and Engineering teams in line with QinetiQ leadership behaviours and values.
• Change: Accountable for ensuring a continued smooth transition to the new operating model, leading members of their Group through any further change.
• Technical Expertise: Working as a key technical expert within programmes, improving business delivery through technical excellence by acting as a trusted advisor, mentor and key contributor to the businesses.
• Customer & Industry Relations: Developing relationships with colleagues and customers, building and maintaining relationships at a senior management level, and providing support and insight to Business Unit Leadership, demonstrably improving the QinetiQ Data Science and Engineering capability.
• Company Collaboration: Through partnership and communication, work across international, business and functional boundaries within QinetiQ to create collaborative working relationships that demonstrably drive the QinetiQ Data Science and Engineering capability.
• Professional Development: Recognised as an expert in the Data Science and Engineering profession internally with colleagues and in the external market, demonstrate progression against professional Data Science and Engineering competencies. Driving a culture of continuous professional development within the QinetiQ Data Science and Engineering profession.
• Functional Management; Responsible for the Functional Management of the Group’s Team Leaders. Setting their performance goals, guiding their personal and professional development and providing suitable mentorship in effectively undertaking their team leader roles.

This is a full-time post, 37-hours per week, with Hybrid working at either Farnborough or Malvern and there will be an expectation to travel between the two.

Essential experience of the Group Lead in Data Science and Engineering.
• Ten Years varied Experience working in the Data Science and Engineering profession with a significant Data Science Technical Background.
• Ability to be demonstrate exceptional Leadership, Enthusiasm and a capability of developing large teams to meet specific objectives.
• Extensive experience in senior stakeholder engagement and leadership internally and externally to ensure the successful delivery of complex projects.
• Has achieved professional registration or equivalent experience.

Desirable experience of the Group Lead in Data Science and Engineering.
• Having a background in Defence or a related industry is advantageous.
