Be part of the QinetiQ journey. Join us as a Health and Safety Advisor supporting our Kyle of Lochalsh, Rosneath, Loch Goil and Rosyth sites, and on occasion the UK Safety Function, driving a step change in the safety culture across the business contributing to improved safety performance.


The role
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you'll act in a “business partner” capacity to provide support, competent and professional safety advice to the Site Operational Team in order to develop and continually improve all aspects of our safety culture, performance and management in accordance with the safety management system and relevant legislative requirements.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Lead by example, championing best practice and encouraging others to demonstrate appropriate leadership behaviours to promote a positive culture in line with our business standards and expectations for safety and environment.
  • Work in partnership to provide competent and professional health, safety and occasional environmental advice to operational and delivery teams
  • Lead a practical implementation and delivery of HSE legislation, policy, strategy and objectives; applying high professional standards through building strong professional internal networks.
  • Lead on effective engagement with internal and external health and safety contacts/stakeholders around the organisation through site visits, remote collaboration, and participation at relevant site meetings.
  • Continually promote a positive and innovative safety culture across site
  • Deliver the safety improvements and changes through a process of training, mentoring, coaching and facilitating.

This role is full-time, 37-hours per week, and can be based at either of the following Scottish maritime sites MOD BUTEC, Kyle of Lochalsh; MOD Rosneath near Helensburgh, MOD Loch Goil near Cairndow or Rosyth, Dunfermline. There is a requirement for regular travel between the sites and occasional travel to team meetings.

Agile working arrangements available in agreement with the business, applying the principles of fairness and consistency, whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to talk about flexible working, including condensed hours.

Essential experience of the Health and Safety Advisor

  • Previous experience in a similar HSE role
  • Experience within the Maritime industry is desirable but not essential


Qualifications for the Health and Safety Advisor

  • NEBOSH certificate or an equivalent qualification.
