QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target. The effectiveness of frontline military operations is dependent upon the Armed Services having the right equipment and undergoing thorough training against realistic threats. Achieving this effectiveness requires rigorous testing and integration of military equipment with the warfighter and extensive training before deployment.
QTS is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and operation of advanced target systems for live-fire training exercises and weapons test and evaluation.
The Role
As an Electronics Production Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Support Manager, you'll have a role out of the ordinary. You will define and document the way we build and test electromechanical assemblies and products.
Day-to-day, you will design and create fixtures, define processes and provide technical support to the purchasing and production teams, whilst contributing your manufacturing expertise to the design team with design reviews.
You will also:
- Liaise with the Research and Development (R&D) team to ensure new products are designed for manufacture, assembly (DfMA) and for testing
- Define manufacturing processes including assembly test and inspection whilst developing work instructions for the manufacturing teams for both new and legacy products
- Support the purchasing team for obsolescence or parts availability issues and the production departments to resolve technical challenges
- Assist the Quality Assurance (QA) team with quality investigations for example; root cause analysis, 5 whys etc. and seek opportunities for improvement in product quality, efficiency of manufacture and cost reduction
- Manage new product introduction to the factory and oversee change to products in a live manufacturing environment
Availability for international travel to support worldwide operations is advantageous but not essential. The role will predominantly be based on our QTS site in Ashford, Kent.
Essential experience of the Electronics Production Engineer:
- Competence using 3D parametric Computer-Aided Deisgn CAD and/or SolidWorks/SolidWorks Electrical
- Radiofrequency test and measurement experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electronics schematic drawings and electronic component data sheets and identify solutions for component obsolescence and availability issues.
- Understanding of Electromechanical Compatibility (EMC) issues and potential solutions
- Electronics design and manufacturing
- Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, including schematic capture, layout and output to manufacture.
Qualifications of the Electronics Production Engineer:
- Degree in Aeronautical, Aviation, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
