QinetiQ manages and operates extensive testing and evaluation capabilities for air, land, sea, and target systems. We collaborate closely and responsively to give defence departments, industry customers and academia a competitive edge through the safe and secure conduct of operational and tactical training exercises that combine both real world and simulated events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As the QTSC HR Advisor, this role will support employee relations, compliance with labour laws, HR policy development, and performance management. You will support recruitment, benefits, workplace culture, diversity, and align HR strategies with organizational values and goals.

The role includes:

  • In partnership with the People team, review and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Canadian provincial and federal labour laws.
  • Support the recruitment process for QTSC including working with managers to identify suitable candidates, pre-screening, arranging interviews and updating employment recruitment software
  • Assisted by the HR Manager, provide support to the Managing Director (MD) and Managers on employee relations matters by offering initial advice and guidance on grievances, disciplinary actions, performance issues, and policy concerns.
  • Ensure HR matters are handled fairly and consistently in line with labour standards, human rights legislation, and QinetiQ’s Code of Conduct expectations..
  • Foster a positive work environment by promoting engagement, resolving disputes, and championing company values.
  • Promote workplace health, wellness, and safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and fostering a safe work environment.
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive workplace, championing initiatives that support a fair, respectful, and equitable culture.
  • Perform a broad range of administration functions such as maintaining accurate and complete personnel and recruitment records, ensuring all personal data is controlled as per provincial and federal Data Protection and Privacy Act.
  • Collect and report monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI)
  • Coordinate all onboarding orientation and off-boarding activities
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of employee and company information, as well as the ability to uphold confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations.
  • In conjunction with the HR Manager, support managers in the performance appraisal process, providing guidance on employee development, capability issues, and corrective action when needed.
  • Support the People function with the seamless delivery of HR related cyclical activities including Performance Development Reviews (PDR) and remuneration review activities.
  • Provide efficient and accurate support to employees in relation to employee benefits, leave, remuneration and workplace matters.
  • Work with the HR Manager and local leadership team to develop and implement an employee engagement plan, which includes analysis of and action taken against employment Engagement surveys.
  • Processing short/long term disability claims and coordinating Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) claims with Health & Safety
  • Provide a professional service with a focus on excellent customer service to colleagues and external customers using written and verbal communication
  • Complete any other tasks required by the HR Manager, MD, or Senior Leadership.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

  • Previous generalist human resource experience within a similar role
  • Previous experience supporting a broad range of stakeholders in an organization with a diverse workforce
  • CPHR designation, or is in process, would be desirable

Security Requirements:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Able to obtain a Canadian Reliability Security clearance
  • Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check

  • Using a keyboard, mouse and other associated peripherals on a daily basis
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Repetitive motion of hands/wrist utilized in filing and other tasks
