The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Programme/Portfolio Manager to lead several large, complex cross-disciplined technical projects with a significant element of software development. You will need to draw on a solid track record of liaising with Customers to define/refine contract scope and lead dispersed technical teams to deliver products that meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. In addition, excellent customer liaison skills are essential to build positive relationships and secure additional work and follow on orders.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading multiple teams of specialist engineers to deliver high quality or safety critical software into a regulated environment. You will have demonstrated the ability to navigate complex issues, working with stakeholders to drive for the best outcome in a collaborative and constructive manner. The role requires regular travel to client sites.

Tasks include:

  • Developing and maintaining positive engagement with Programme Customers, partners and Suppliers
  • Define and execute a single large complex project or portfolio of smaller projects to within a governance framework. This includes working to project baselines and managing change through governance.
  • Resolving conflicts (including prioritisation calls) within a large project or programme and collaborating across QinetiQ to find the optimum business outcome.
  • Lead and manage technical specialists and software project teams to deliver on project goals.
  • Develop detailed, costed project plans and update reporting systems to ensure adherence to project objectives.
  • Maintain project forecasts for sales and delivery which reflects expectations of project stakeholders.
  • Liaising with functions and departments across QinetiQ to secure project resource in the context of optimising overall company success.
  • Maintain forecasts for sales and delivery including preparing reports, presentations, and KPIs for management as needed.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across QinetiQ and its Subsidiaries to promote project buy-in, communicating project purpose for transparency and alignment.
  • Establishing clear guidelines and governance processes.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities, assessing impact, and developing mitigation/securing strategies

  • Problem Solving: being able to apply strong analytical and conceptual skills to identify possible courses of action and determine the best option.
  • Resilience and Tenacity: Ability to prioritise tasks to meet strict deadlines, deal with setbacks and respond positively when things do not go according to plan.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience leading programmes or complex projects to several different customers
  • Delivering projects within a UK Government contract framework
  • Managing formal governance reviews and presenting to Executive stakeholders
  • Calculating and reporting project KPI’s including Earned Value Management / EVM
  • Commercial Customer/ Stakeholder Management
  • Subcontractor/Supplier Management
  • Proven experience of managing multi-faceted Software / Integration projects
  • Formal Risk Management Process
  • Waterfall and Agile technical delivery

Desired:

  • Experience of project management within the defence and security domains
  • Experience working in a large organisation operating a matrix organisation
  • Digital modelling, Simulation or Decision Support products
  • Scaled Agile for Enterprise experience
