The Maritime Command and Staff Trainer (MCAST) project delivers Maritime Battlestaff (MBS) training and assurance exercises up to the Royal Navy.

The Role

The Technical Delivery Manager (TDM) will work as part of a close knit, customer facing team delivering a series of MBS exercises over an initial 5 year period. The TDM will be lead a small technical team and be responsible for the correct technical configuration of QinetiQ’s MCAST system as required for each unique exercise. This will include the development and maintenance of scenario and model databases, CIS systems, exercise laydowns and the identification of continuous improvement priorities to be implemented by the MCAST development team.

Reporting to the MCAST Service Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of technical tasks and resources and for the timely and safe completion of all technical activities, within cost and to the relevant quality standards for the duration of the contract. Close liaison with You will provide regular progress reports to the project management and ensure project milestones are delivered in a timely manner.

Tasks include:

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the technical aspects of the MCAST service to enable exercise execution and achievement of Training Objectives (TOs).
  • Working closely with other teams to ensure achievement of exercise TOs are not limited by technical capability of the system.
  • Leading the Technical Delivery Team to ensure MCAST Service priorities are met
  • Attend and support agreed project meetings and working groups
  • Support exercise delivery, attend and support daily exercise coordination meetings.
  • During exercise execution, act as a technical point of escalation for issues and remedial actions if required.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding and proven experience of delivering and deploying technology supported training solutions and operations, with experience of dealing with senior ranks and demonstrable commercial awareness.

Based in the Portsmouth area, this role will suit those who enjoy 'making things happen' and is very 'delivery' focused. You will be working closely with the exercise delivery and leading the technical teams to deliver a seamless experience to the training audience.

Experience and skills:

  • Understanding and use of synthetic environments to support training
  • Understanding of a range of CIS systems
  • Relevant project management experience, techniques and tools used. Prioritisation, risk and opportunity management
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multi-tas
  • The ability to communicate efficiently and diplomatically in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong leadership and management skills of teams with a range of backgrounds, skills and levels of experience
  • Expert user of the MS Office Suite
