The Role
As a member of the UK Defence Operations Maritime domain, the shock facility technician role will provide support by delivering planned maintenance and to operate the shock test facilities to enable customer equipment to be tested to the required shock standards.

Day-to-day, you’ll support the assembly of test rigs, prepare and calibrate shock machines, manage and maintain customers and our own plant equipment, as well as make sure all activities are carried out in a safe and secure manner.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake the assembly of test rigs and fixtures to facilitate the shock testing of Customers equipment
  • Prepare the shock machines for calibration and equipment testing in accordance with local documentation, ensuring any deficiencies are bought to the attention of the Facility Manager or Shock Technical Lead
  • Fit Customer equipment in accordance with agreed procedure to the appropriate shock machine and operate shock machine in accordance with local documentation
  • Complete maintenance of associated plant and equipment in accordance with facility schedules, and that facility and buildings and are kept clean & tidy

Essential experience of the Shock Facility Technician:

  • Strong previous experience in managing and maintaining specialist machines
  • Experience of working in a workshop environment with awareness of the dangers of working in a similar environment and managing health and safety to mitigate any dangers
  • Proven experience of working with manual machines such as drills, lathes, etc…
  • Fabrication experience, ideally working with sheet metal
  • The ability to understand technical drawings
  • Proven experience of problem solving using the tools available to work as a team and find a solution

Essential qualifications for the Shock Facility Technician:

  • To have attained NVQ/SVQ L3 or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline OR evidence of recent experience in a similar role.
  • Driving licence preferable due to location of site
