We are currently accepting applications for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Integrated Engineering Service team based in Sydney.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for mechanical design, prototyping and testing in a hardware development environment for electro-mechanical assemblies.

The role exists within a high performing and growing team, where staff are fully supported. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall improvement in quality of delivering engineering services to QinetiQ’s customers within a safe working environment.

The Mechanical Engineer will be accountable for:

  • Liaising with electronics engineers for the integration of electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Performing mechanical design of components and assemblies within a marine and underwater environment
  • Working with suppliers for the manufacture of components.
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing of developmental equipment.
  • Coordination of verification testing such as environmental testing to MIL-STDs.
  • Documentation of design justification, procedures, test reports, etc.
  • Making responsible decisions on matters assigned, including the establishment of professional engineering standards and procedures, consult, recommends and advises in specialty engineering areas.
  • Attaining an Engineering Authority under the QinetiQ and/or customers Engineering Management System
  • Delivering services to customers that enhance QinetiQ’s reputation as a trusted provider and partner.
  • Providing input into quotations for customer work including technical delivery method, resource requirements and estimated level of effort.
  • Compliance with legislative, regulatory, QinetiQ Quality Management Systems, Employee Safety requirements.

As a suitably experienced and well- rounded engineering professional, the Mechanical Engineer will have:

  • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in a hardware development environment
  • A general understanding of the design lifecycle and development within a Systems Engineering context.
  • Experience designing within a CAD environment including the creation of technical engineering drawings in accordance with AS1100.
  • Ability to perform mechanical analysis (FEA experience considered advantageous).
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing techniques and general design for manufacture
  • Experience of systems utilised in a marine and underwater environment (considered advantageous).
  • Experience with the design and analysis of structures and components in accordance with relevant Australian standards (considered advantageous
  • Experience with working within a Defence environment.
  • Strong team working skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Integrity and high personal ethical standards that align with QinetiQ standards

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold an NV1 Australian Defence security clearance.
