Role Purpose

The Group Head of Risk and Resilience is responsible for developing and delivering an integrated Risk Management System across QinetiQ, ensuring seamlessly connectivity between project and enterprise risk frameworks. The role leverages expert subject matter knowledge to develop processes and competence across management teams, enabling the effective management of risk at all levels. The role is a key advisor to senior management levels, producing high quality measures and reports up to and including board level, to support the flow of risk appetite and ownership. The role drives the highest standards of process and behaviour, to enable the business to operate a safe, right first-time approach.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own the risk strategy for QinetiQ, working to deploy board risk appetites and Group strategy goals into practical risk management actions
  • Lead, embed and develop an end-to-end risk management process across the Group, unifying project, enterprise and strategic risks into a clearly owned hierarchy
  • Working with the People function and senior levels, enable the management of risk at all levels in the organisation, developing a strong risk culture and competence at all levels
  • Provide suitable clear strategic risk reporting to executives and the board, to enable effective decision making
  • Lead the design and deployment of suitable resilience frameworks, with support capabilities in alignment to businesses and functions to minimise the impact of disruptive events
  • Define, oversee and ensure a suitable business continuity plan structure across the Group, to ensure incident response is clear, managed and reported effectively
  • Develop and operate risk performance indicators that identify exposures and inform management decisions to mitigate
  • Using appropriate tools and people networks, provide a robust horizon scanning view of strategic risks to the business
  • Working with the People function, Define, develop and embed suitable training on risk and business continuity across the Group.

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of driving positive change across multiple countries, sites with a mix of services and products.
  • Proven track record of delivering a culture of quality and continuous improvement across a range of environments (offices, workshops, labs, etc.).
  • A positive and encouraging attitude to challenges, enabling the motivation of direct and indirect teams to achieve goals
  • Excellent interpersonal communication in both verbal and written forms, at all levels from operational staff up to and including board level
  • A good working knowledge of applicable regulation and associated legislation.
  • A pragmatic thinker, able to identify both process improvement opportunities and where to apply flexibility/robustness to deliver outcomes.
  • A strong ‘people person’, with the ability to work with and influence many different people.
  • Ability to challenge and question people, process and systems in a direct but non-offensive and tactful manner

Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 10 years’ experience at a leadership level, leading risk in a technical environment
  • Professional experience of delivering risk frameworks in complex organisations with multiple jurisdictions and domains
  • Appropriately aligned technical qualifications (MIRM) desirable
