From cutting-edge defence technology to ground-breaking innovations our mission is to empower and protect lives. Join us as a Vehicle Engineer at our Hurn Proving Ground site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.

As a Vehicle Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring military vehicles and systems are assessed safely, effectively and rigorously, helping our customers make informed decisions about the equipment used by the UK Armed Forces.

Day-to-day, you'll support the planning, execution and reporting of vehicle trials at our Hurn Proving Ground. Working closely with military personnel, customers and technical specialists, you'll help deliver test and evaluation activities on a variety of vehicle types, ensuring trials are conducted safely and efficiently.

The role offers an excellent balance of practical, hands-on engineering and technical analysis. One day you may be fitting instrumentation and conducting vehicle trials across challenging terrain, while the next you could be analysing data in MATLAB, developing technical reports, supporting bid activities or contributing to the operation and maintenance of the Hurn facility. This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors and seeing the direct impact of their work on real-world defence programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, conduct and support vehicle trials and assessments, ensuring activities are delivered safely and meet customer requirements
  • Install and operate instrumentation systems to capture accurate vehicle performance, mobility, noise, vibration and shock data
  • Analyse and interpret trial data using tools such as MATLAB, producing clear technical reports and recommendations
  • Work closely with customers, military personnel and internal stakeholders to deliver effective test and evaluation programmes
  • Contribute to technical proposals, bid writing and cost estimation activities to support future business opportunities
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the Hurn Proving Ground, helping ensure facilities, equipment and test areas remain safe and operationally ready

Essential experience of the Vehicle Engineer:

  • Experience of instrumentation, data acquisition and measurement techniques, including capturing and validating test data
  • Knowledge of data analysis methodologies and experience using analytical software tools such as MATLAB or similar coding and analysis platforms
  • Strong technical reporting, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Demonstrable commitment to safety, with the ability to work in a hands-on environment and support field-based trials and facility operations

Essential qualifications for the Vehicle Engineer:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or another relevant Science or Engineering discipline
  • Full UK Driving Licence

We value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Hurn Proving Ground site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
