The Role


As an Associate Noise & Vibration Engineer, you'll play an important role in helping to protect the health, safety and performance of military personnel operating in demanding environments. Working as part of QinetiQ's Human Performance Noise & Vibration Team, you'll support the assessment of how noise and vibration impact people, providing the evidence needed to improve safety, comfort and operational effectiveness.

Day-to-day, you'll support and deliver a variety of laboratory and field-based trials, collecting and analysing acoustic and vibration data using specialist equipment and software.

You'll help assess noise exposure, hand-arm vibration and whole-body vibration, while contributing to investigations into their effects on communication, fatigue, comfort and human performance.

The role also involves preparing and maintaining testing equipment, supporting vehicle and aircraft trials, analysing test results, and producing technical reports and customer deliverables.

Working alongside experienced engineers and scientists, you'll gain hands-on experience across a range of Defence projects, including the evaluation of hearing protection systems, communication technologies and vibration mitigation solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of noise and vibration trials in laboratory and field environments
  • Collecting, processing and analysing acoustic and vibration data using specialist equipment and software
  • Assessing the impact of noise and vibration on human performance, comfort, fatigue and communication
  • Preparing, calibrating and maintaining acoustic and vibration measurement equipment
  • Contributing to technical reports, presentations and customer deliverables
  • Supporting the evaluation of hearing protection systems, communication equipment and vibration mitigation technologies

Essential experience of the Associate Noise & Vibration Engineer:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data
  • Experience using data analysis tools such as MATLAB or similar software
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly through reports and presentations
  • Understanding of engineering, physics, acoustics or vibration principles gained through study or project work
  • Experience of laboratory testing, experimental work or engineering research projects
  • Willingness to support field trials and undertake occasional UK travel

Essential qualifications for the Associate Noise & Vibration Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Acoustics or a related discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering or a closely related subject

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. (add any relevant sentences below)
