Semtech Corporation (NASDAQ:SMTC; www.Semtech.com) is a leading supplier of high-quality analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products. Semtech has a large number of design centres around the world, including three within the UK. The Bristol design centre is focused on optoelectronic ICs primarily targeted to datacoms and adjacent markets. Products include TIAs, laser drivers, optical receivers and fully integrated transceiver IC products from below 1Gbps to over 800Gbps. Within the centre, all functions of product development from initial ideas to full production take place, including, marketing, definition, design, layout, product engineering, validation, test engineering, characterization, qualification, applications, etc. Due to the significant innovation and differentiation in the development of our products, Semtech has continued to be the leader in our target markets.

Job Summary:

An experienced semiconductor product engineer with direct experience and track record of bringing automotive products through the full NPI process from definition to production release, including all functional safety related analysis and documentation. Candidate must be pro-active and self-driven to bring the functional teams to successfully execute on processes and workflows, with a deep understanding of all related processes including DFT, packaging, fabrication process, process modelling and qualification. Opportunity for the right candidate to bring their experience and knowledge to provide leadership to help define automotive and functional safety processes and workflows within Semtech SIP business unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in the overall quality and compliance to requirements specification of a product throughout its’ lifecycle, from definition, to release and volume production

  • Able to contribute to the development of automotive product and functional safety processes and workflows, and provide input to automotive QMS documentation

  • Work with and co-ordinate functional teams to deliver functional safety related assessments and analyses such as ASIL, fault tree, PPAP, DFMEA, TFMEA & FMEDA and associated documentation

  • Apply their knowledge of Zero Defect Framework, AEC-Q004 to achieve the required automotive product quality levels

  • Work with different disciplines across the NPI team, sharing knowledge and giving guidance on how process issues and variation correlate to both reliability (defects, FIT rate, etc.) and the distribution of individual performance parameters

  • Support all NPI-related activities for manufacturability, such as DfT (analysis and recommendations to the design and test teams), yield, COP, test coverage, limit setting, guard banding, and test program releases to both near and far-shore

  • Work with test engineering to bring up product and test solutions, both onshore and at OSAT

  • Drive the resolution of failure analyses, root-cause and corrective actions for field returns

  • Perform capability & margin analysis, correlation studies and yield modeling on new products

  • Co-ordinate manufacturing documentation for production transfer and product maintenance

  • Planning and executing on production volume ramps and hand-over to sustaining team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc in a relevant engineering subject

  • Five or more years of experience as a semiconductor product engineer in mixed-signal products, ideally for automotive use

  • Experience and working knowledge of related quality standards and systems such as JEDEC, ISO-26262, AEC-Q100 and their application, as well as statistical analysis techniques such as dPAT and SPC

  • An understanding of wafer fabrication processes, including process controls and monitors

  • Working knowledge of the capabilities of ATE (e.g. Advantest 93k), for both wafer probe and for packaged products
