The Bristol design centre is focused on optoelectronic ICs primarily targeted to datacoms and adjacent markets. Products include TIAs, laser drivers, optical receivers and fully integrated transceiver IC products from below 1Gbps to over 800Gbps. Within the centre, all functions of product development from initial ideas to full prodization take place, including, marketing, definition, design, layout, product engineering, validation, test engineering, characterization, qualification, applications, etc. Due to the significant innovation and differentiation in the development of our products, Semtech has continued to be the leader in our target markets.


Job Summary:


Searching for experienced semiconductor Senior Applications Engineer with direct experience, and track record, of bringing automotive products through the NPI development process from definition to production release, including all quality, functional safety and qualification related analysis and documentation. Preferably RF (up to 1 GHz) and opto-electronics and specifically transimpedance amplifiers, silicon optical amplifier drivers and laser drivers for optical components.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on legacy and new product performance to customers.
  • Provide end application knowledge input to the FuSa ISO-26262 process to allow a smooth transition through the “double V” automotive development process from concept to implementation.
  • Understand and demonstrate knowledge of automotive systems, architecture and applications
  • Interface to marketing, design, and the customers to provide support for new products and support existing products.
  • Be the voice of the customer and an active member within in New Product Development Teams.
  • Provide the necessary reference design to enable customers to implement our products successfully.
  • Own the delivery of customer documentation, application notes and datasheets.
  • Personally, perform NPI activities, including PCB design, RF simulation, documentation, optical component selection, system level testing.
  • Maintain customer database for all customer contact.
  • Visit customers for on-site problem solving and technical discussion when required in support of the field applications team.
  • Stay abreast of industry technical and business trends through benchmarking and/or participation in professional associations.
  • Apply expertise and think creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.
  • Foster strong internal and external networks and work with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Act as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators/standards committees.
  • Anticipate trends and respond by implementing appropriate changes.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to develop business case, balancing technical and commercial risks, to support effective decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc in a relevant engineering degree, preferably a higher degree in optical related engineering Masters or PhD.
  • 10 years+ experience in complex PCB/electronics/optical Mixed signal chip support/design.
  • Previous experience 5 years+ of Applications support of complex optical IC’s.
  • PCB design and EM simulation experience.
  • Experience with Automotive systems engineering and SysML modelling, Enterprise architecture, Matlab and Simulink is desirable.
  • Experience with Automotive Functional Safety is desirable but not mandatory
