Job Summary:

Semtech Corporation is seeking for an experienced payroll/accounting specialist to join our Payroll Team. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Payroll, the Payroll Supervisor, North America oversees the Canadian and US payroll processes, prepares all payroll related journal entries and reports. In addition, supports equity administration functions as directed by the Equity Manager. The position requires a mix of analytical and critical thinking, application of a continuous improvement mindset to deliver exceptional customer service to our growing workforce in North America.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures payroll is accurate by monitoring and auditing each payroll and making any corrections or adjustments needed to ensure employees are paid correctly. Signs off on all Canadian / USA payroll entries each pay period prior to a preview payroll register being sent to Payroll Manager for a final approval

  • Prepares journal entries, month-end accruals, vacation accrual, statutory adjustments and year-end adjustments. Works closely with the Corporate Finance team to ensure accurate payroll related reporting and GL interface

  • Assists with a preparation of year-end related activities, including updating taxable benefits, balancing, producing W2s, T4’s, T4A’s and T2200, annual reconciliation of EHT and workers compensation premiums

  • Assists the Equity Manager with the equity administration process, including processing new grants, setting up participants in the equity administration platform, prepares RSU Vest schedule, tax override templates and other tasks as required

  • Works with federal and state/local agencies to ensure a payroll compliance. Follows up on CRA / IRS / State Notices if any issue arises

  • Assists with processing bi-weekly US and Canadian payroll using ADP WFN

  • Acts as a back up to Canadian and US Payroll Administrators during their time off

  • Leads payroll reporting, including SRED reporting, monthly /quarterly / annual payroll reporting as required

  • Participates in internal and external payroll audits

  • Participates in various ad hoc projects as required

  • Supports automation and integration system initiatives with third party providers (401K, GL integration with SAP)

  • Provides recommendations to the Payroll Senior Manager on resolution of payroll issues and on opportunities to enhance efficiency of payroll operations

  • Proposes system efficiencies and enhancements by partnering with the HRIS team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Canadian and US payroll rules/legislation required

  • A minimum 5 years of experience in payroll and accounting role

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills for reporting and data validation

  • Proficient with processing Canadian and US payroll using ADP WFN

  • Experience with Workday (Core HR, Time & Attendance modules) and SAP is an asset

  • Detailed-oriented, accurate, organized and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize workload

  • Proven ability to maintain sensitive and highly confidential information

  • Familiarity with Equity payroll transactions including RSU and Stock Options

Desired Qualifications

  • Payroll Certified – Canadian Payroll Association and/or American Payroll Association Certification required

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is CAD $95,000 to $105,000 a year. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base salary, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education and experience, as well as job location and the value of other elements of an employee’s total compensation package.
