Job Summary:
We are looking to expand our Product Definition team to better serve the market needs and create more technological breakthroughs for our eco-system, customers and partners. As Semtech rapidly expands it wireless portfolio, we are looking for the right candidate to define very ambitious next generation products. The ideal candidate is based in Europe, close to our Swiss (Neuchatel) facility. As an alternative, the candidate can be close to our French (Grenoble) office. Candidates in North America can also be considered.
As Product Definer, part of the Marketing and Application team, you will be a key player driving innovation, defining next-generation product roadmaps, writing Long Range, low-power product specifications (PRDs) tailored for multiple market segments (Smart City, Smart Building, Smart Home, Smart Utility and Asset Management). You will engage cross functionally with a diverse team including IC design, Applications, Marketing, and other engineering teams to turn concepts into reality.
This role combines deep knowledge of system level challenges from a customer perspective with knowledge of wireless communication, IC design techniques, low-power architectures, communication protocols and others to produce optimal specifications for new products. Once approved for execution, the candidate will issue a PRD that will be used as the guideline for the R&D team.
Responsibilities:
The perfect candidate will have a relevant experience in Wireless SOC development, with a good understanding of modern wireless communication protocols, as well as detailed understanding of the low-power embedded universe, including power management and energy harvesting concepts.
- System On Chip Product definition: establish the development requirements (CPU, peripherals, memory, cybersecurity, power consumption), as well as tools, documentation and acceptance criteria (20%)
- Product competitiveness analysis to guide marketing and technical roadmap (20%)
- Work closely with internal cross-functional teams, such as system architecture, RF design, FW development, protocol stack design, program management and product marketing
- Work closely with Application Engineering, FAEs and Sales teams globally to gather voice of customer
- Travel and meet with Lead customers and eco-system partners to refine specifications (10-25%)
- Build critical collaterals to evangelize proposal and support customer engagement (20%)
- Directly support top tier customer engagements to gain consensus on proposals and lead them to revenue
- Maintain key customer relationships to enable early market visibility (20%)
- Be up-to speed on new innovations across the industry (10%)
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS, MS preferred in electronic engineering (RF desired)
- 7 to 10+ years working with low-power embedded MCU platforms, and/or wireless communication technology
- Experience in defining and developing tool sets for the enablement of MCUs
- Have previous experience in the IoT space, and be able to understand embedded/low power devices requirements
- Experience in MCU definition
- System cyber-security understanding from the end-device standpoint
- Understanding of global cyber-security frameworks and upcoming policies
- Ability to understand and analyze customer requirements and fitness of our products
Desired Qualifications
- A strong knowledge of Bluetooth LE, Thread, Z-Wave or Matter would be a plus
- Experience in one or more RTOS offering would be plus
- Experience in recognized developer communities would be a plus
- Effective communication, good listening, negotiation skills
- Enjoying customer interaction, willingness to travel
- Ability to work in diverse teams on different locations
