Location: Bristol, UK (St James Court B)
Hybrid Model: 4 days in office (Monday – Thursday)

Our Team:

At Semtech, the New Product Introduction (NPI) Product Engineering team is the central force behind every product we bring to market.

The team takes full ownership of new product development, guiding each program from concept through to high-volume manufacturing and end-of-life, with a focus on quality, precision, and execution.

Working across Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications, and Operations, our engineers define testability requirements, drive comprehensive characterisation across PVT, ensure robust ATE-to-bench correlation, optimise yield and test cost, and enable seamless transfer into production.

As demand for high-performance optical and analog/mixed-signal IC solutions continues to grow, we are strengthening our NPI capability to ensure we consistently deliver best-in-class product performance, manufacturability, and customer value.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an NPI Product Engineer to support new product development from early concept through to production release.

In this role, you will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to develop deep technical expertise across product engineering, characterisation, test strategy, yield optimisation, and manufacturing readiness. You will play a direct role in enabling successful product launches of advanced CMOS and BiCMOS semiconductor technologies.

Reporting to the Manager of NPI Product Engineering, this position offers strong technical development within a fast-paced, high-performance engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

• Support NPI programs from concept through product release and manufacturing transfer, working closely with Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications, Marketing, and Operations teams. (25%)

• Assist in defining Design for Testability (DfT) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) requirements, and support development and optimisation of ATE test solutions. (35%)

• Contribute to product characterisation, PVT correlation, datasheet validation, and statistically driven test limit definition. (30%)

• Support wafer-level and bench characterisation activities, including data analysis across process, voltage, and temperature variations. (30%)

• Assist in yield modelling, DOE planning, test time optimisation, and identification of yield improvement opportunities. (30%)

• Support manufacturing quality monitoring, failure analysis, and root cause investigations for production and field returns. (10%)

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across test coverage, guard-banding, and cost reduction activities. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
• 5–8 years’ experience in semiconductor product, test, or design engineering (relevant internships considered)
• Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as Excel or JMP
• Foundational understanding of semiconductor physics and analog/mixed-signal IC principles
• Exposure to DfT, DfM, and ATE methodologies advantageous
• Awareness of ATE platforms (e.g., Advantest, Teradyne) and bench test equipment beneficial
• Understanding of semiconductor qualification standards (JEDEC, HTOL, ESD, Latch-up) beneficial
• Strong analytical mindset, structured problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills

Desired Attributes:

• Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving technical requirements
• Data-driven approach combined with sound engineering judgement
• Proactive mindset with strong ownership and accountability
• Interest in end-to-end product lifecycle ownership

Why Join Us?

• Work on advanced semiconductor technologies powering next-generation optical and analog systems
• Gain full exposure to the product lifecycle from concept to high-volume manufacturing
• Collaborate with highly experienced engineering teams across global sites
• Develop deep expertise in product engineering, yield optimisation, and manufacturing readiness
• Be part of a culture focused on technical excellence, continuous improvement, and real-world impact

Career Growth Philosophy:

At Semtech, we believe strong product engineers are developed through ownership, curiosity, and continuous technical growth.

We invest in engineers who want to understand the full system, not just their functional area. This role is designed to help you evolve into a true end-to-end product owner within semiconductor development.

We support growth through:

  • Structured mentorship from senior engineering leadership
  • Exposure to full product lifecycle decision-making
  • Hands-on experience with complex yield, test, and manufacturing challenges
  • A culture that values initiative, technical depth, and practical problem-solving

Our pay-for-performance culture recognises meaningful technical contribution and encourages engineers to expand both their influence and expertise over time.
