Mission:

Skip is on a mission to fast-track Australians into home ownership by building a fairer, faster path to buying a home.

Our loan volumes, revenues and team are scaling fast - and the finance function needs to scale with us. This role exists to build that foundation: a best-in-class operational finance function that can carry Skip through the next stage of growth, survive an audit, and give founders and investors the clarity they need to make fast, confident decisions.

About the role:

This is a rare role for a hands-on finance professional who wants to build, not maintain.

Skip's finance function currently runs through one person and an outsourced accounting firm. It works at current scale. It will not work at 5x. We need someone who can build the function so it keeps pace with the business.

You will be taking over from one of the founders, becoming the financial backbone of the business: owning accounting, controls, reporting, and the operational infrastructure that underpins our treasury function. You will work closely with our Founding Treasury & Securitisation Lead to establish clean delineation between the two teams - explicit ownership of covenants, borrowing base, funding forecasts, and cash circuit management, with no gaps and no overlap.

This role is about operational excellence over strategic advisory — with the commercial judgment to know when to escalate. You'll insource accounting, close technical gaps, and build a reporting suite that gives executives, founders, and the board real-time visibility into the business.

We want someone who has done this at a fast-scaling startup or fintech and who is excited by the challenge.. Over time, this role has a clear path - stepping up into CFO or working alongside one as we scale. If you perform, the opportunity will be there.

You will have direct access to founders and the full backing of our engineering team to help you automate and systematise - because we do not accept manual processes that scale linearly with volume.

Key Responsibilities:

Build and lead the finance function

  • Take full ownership of operational finance - including management accounts, payroll (incl. STP, payroll tax, superannuation) , accounts payable, FP&A, cost forecasting, variance analysis, ESOP register oversight, and financial modelling

  • Cash flow management - Define an auditable cash management policy and build a cash flow forecast that integrates settlement pipeline, commission payment cycles, operational AP, and debt facility drawdown timing.

  • Build the in-house capability: transition away from the outsourced provider and build an internal team capable of handling the end-to-end requirements of the operational finance function

  • Work with our Founding Treasury & Securitisation Lead to establish clear delineation between finance and treasury - defining explicit ownership of covenant reporting, borrowing base, funding forecasts, and cash circuit management on both sides

  • Build and own the board and investor reporting cadence: weekly flash reports, monthly CFO packs, and a streamlined investor update process that doesn’t require a founder to chase down numbers

  • Formalize the annual financial budgeting process and act as the primary financial business partner to department heads (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Ops & Treasury) to drive cost management and performance

Set Tax & Accounting Foundations

  • Prepare the business for its first external audit - building the controls environment (incl. vendor and procurement controls), documentation, and reconciliation quality that auditors will expect

  • Develop a formal accounting policies - covering revenue recognition, origination cost treatment, clawback provisions, EIR methodology, FX, share-based payments and lease accounting

  • Own group consolidation and intercompany accounting — preparing consolidated financial statements across all Skip Corporate entities and ensuring the consolidated financials are audit-ready

  • Manage comprehensive tax compliance and strategy, overseeing corporate income tax, GST, FBT compliance and R&D Tax Incentive

  • Own statutory and regulatory reporting obligations including ASIC statutory accounts and Corporations Act lodgements across all group entities and ATO lodgement management

Automate and systematise

  • Build live operational reporting infrastructure: daily operational, settlement and cash position dashboards, weekly flash report, and real-time covenant and treasury position - so founders and the board can see the business without asking for it

  • Drive automation in the Finance function:

    • lead the implementation of the Aleph to deliver automated reporting and eliminate manual work across the function

    • automate cash reconciliations and payments in our lending operations across settlements, discharges and commissions

  • Own the financial risk management framework, including the management of corporate insurance policies (e.g. D&O, Professional Indemnity and others)

What you will bring:

  • 5–9 years in finance roles at fast-scaling startups, fintechs, or high-growth businesses - you have built or materially fixed a finance function under pressure, not just run one that was handed to you

  • CA, CPA, or equivalent qualification - or strong practical accounting depth that substitutes for the letters after your name

  • Experience in financial services or regulated financial environments is advantageous - you understand how accounting works in a lender and SPV context

  • A track record of insourcing or transitioning accounting functions - you know how to move from an outsourced model to an internal team without losing quality during the handover

  • Strong FP&A capability - financial modelling, variance analysis, cost forecasting — and the ability to own the numbers and communicate them clearly to founders, board, and investors

  • A genuine technology and automation mindset - you see systemisation as a core part of the job, you have used data tools and integrations to eliminate manual finance workflows, and you do not accept repetitive manual work as the default

  • Comfort working in an early-stage, high-growth company where processes are built, not inherited

Why join us:

  • Build the finance function at a company that is going somewhere. This is not a maintenance role - it is a builder role at a company with serious momentum, real backing, and a genuine social mission

  • Take over from a founder. That is the ultimate mandate. You will have real ownership, not a delegated slice of someone else’s job

  • A clear path up. We are not hiring a CFO today - but if you perform, the opportunity to step into that role or work alongside one as we scale will be explicitly on the table

  • Work at the frontier of finance and technology. You'll have the full support of an internal product and engineering team to help you build and automate - this is finance for the modern era, not spreadsheets and manual processes

  • Serious company, serious scale. Backed by leading US venture funds, global credit partners, and prominent Australian investors, Skip is in a true hyper-growth phase with a loan book scaling rapidly and major distribution partnerships already live.

  • A positive impact. Your work helps hard working Australians’ Skip to home ownership sooner.

  • A team that backs you. We move fast, we take ownership, and we back each other to do the best work of our careers
