Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. As Discord's Public Policy Advisor for the EU, you will be responsible for building trust and finding common ground with EU policymakers, civil society, industry, and other stakeholders in Brussels. This role is Brussel-based and will report to the Director of Public Policy for Europe and MENA.

What you'll be doing

• Build and maintain relationships with EU policymakers (European Commission, European Parliament, Council), industry, and civil society representatives in Brussels
• Advocate for Discord's position on key legislative and regulatory initiatives that will impact our users and our business, balancing direct advocacy with effective leverage from coalitions and associations
• Manage our industry trade groups and advocate for Discord's priorities within them
• Monitor and analyze policy developments in Brussels
• Develop public policy materials such as position papers, talking points, presentations, and consultation responses, for engagement with our partners
• Engage with cross-functional partners (Legal, Trust and Safety, Communications, Policy), reporting on policy developments and gathering their input
  
  

What you should have

• 5-7 years experience working in government, civil society, politics, or industry in Brussels and/or the greater Europe region with a focus on digital policies
• Master's Degree or equivalent experience
• Deep knowledge of the policy landscape in Brussels, including laws and regulations and important partners
• Excellent written and oral English language skills
• Great networker and communicator
• Willingness to travel, with occasional travel to the U.S. and Amsterdam
  
  

Bonus points

• Fluency in French, German, or Dutch
• Experience representing a U.S. company
• Familiarity with Discord as a user
• Work experience on technology policy initiatives such as online safety, content moderation, privacy, especially in the online gaming space
• Leadership experience with a civil society organization and/or tech company
• Success building trust and consensus across stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities
