Meta's Product Counsel organization provides strategic legal advice and risk mitigation to product, engineering, and business teams across Meta's family of apps and services. Attorneys in this organization partner cross-functionally to address complex, novel legal issues in a fast-paced, innovative environment and influence product and business decisions at scale.This role sits within the Product Counsel team focused on Instagram, advising Instagram's product and engineering teams on a broad range of legal matters including privacy, data protection, consumer protection, intellectual property, advertising, and platform integrity. The attorney in this role will serve as a strategic legal partner to Instagram's leadership and cross-functional teams, helping navigate evolving regulatory frameworks, building scalable legal solutions, and ensuring that Instagram's products and features are developed and launched responsibly and in compliance with applicable laws worldwide.

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. Lead Counsel, Product Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary legal partner to Instagram product, engineering, and business teams, providing practical and strategic legal advice on complex and novel legal questions arising from Instagram's products, features, and business models
- Advise on a broad range of legal subject areas relevant to Instagram, including privacy, data protection, consumer protection, intellectual property, advertising law, platform integrity, and emerging regulatory frameworks
- Analyze new Instagram products and features to identify and mitigate legal risks across multiple jurisdictions, including the EU, US, and other key markets
- Build and scale legal solutions and frameworks that enable Instagram product teams to meet regulatory obligations while maintaining product velocity and innovation
- Drive high-impact, cross-functional projects involving legal analysis and compliance, partnering with policy, communications, security, operations, and business stakeholders
- Influence Instagram product and business decisions by ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements and proactively identifying legal risk mitigation opportunities
- Develop and deliver clear, actionable legal guidance to non-legal audiences, including product managers, engineers, and business leaders across Instagram
- Monitor and assess evolving global regulatory developments relevant to Instagram, including those related to content moderation, youth safety, advertising, and data privacy, and translate those developments into practical product and compliance guidance
- Collaborate with Meta's broader legal, policy, and compliance teams to ensure consistency and alignment on cross-cutting legal issues affecting Instagram and Meta's family of apps
- Proactively identify systemic legal risks across Instagram's product portfolio and develop scalable approaches to address them across teams and geographies
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
- Active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign bar license, where the jurisdiction of licensure differs from the location in which the role is based, the ability to promptly obtain permission to practice law for Meta in that location
- 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, in-house, or in government
- Experience providing legal advice on technology, internet, social media, or consumer-facing digital products and services
- Experience with privacy, data protection, consumer protection, advertising law, intellectual property, and/or platform regulatory compliance
- Experience communicating complex legal issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Familiarity with emerging areas such as AI-driven advertising, influencer/creator marketing, and youth or teen safety considerations
- Experience with regulatory engagement, inquiries, or investigations involving advertising or platform products
- Experience advising social media, consumer internet, or mobile application product and engineering teams on developing advertising, commerce, and monetization products
