Job Description
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is what you get when you treat operations as if it is a software problem.
Our mission is to protect and provide for the software and systems behind Xplor’s services with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, latency, performance, and capacity. As an SRE you will use your experience in running production-grade software to build automation that allow our systems to run smoothly with minimal intervention.
This is an ideal role for someone who wants to work through problems and provide solutions that have significant positive impact to our products and customers.
Essential duties and responsibilities include...
- Lead a team of SREs through departmental and organizational projects
- Ensure the health and wellbeing of our customers, employees and production systems by properly prioritizing work to prevent repeat issues and obtain a sustainable work pace
- Track and maintain SLOs for supported services
- Maintain a 40%-60% capex rate, balancing ongoing toil with platform improvements
- Liaise with other SRE teams in the organization to promote knowledge sharing and facilitate tactical technology changes
- Report progress of strategic objectives to the Director of SRE
- Mentor and train other SREs to further their career and create lasting communities
- Eliminate unnecessary complexity to make life simple and build for people
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed
- Additional technical responsibilities inclusive of those required as an individual contributor
- Other duties as assigned by IT leadership
Technologies you will be learning and working with....
- Languages: Python, bash, Powershell, C#, Java, Terraform
- Workload management: Azure, AWS, Container Orchestration, VMWare
- CI/CD: Azure DevOps pipelines, Octopus Deploy
- Infrastructure as code: Terraform, Puppet, Ansible
- Monitoring: Coralogix, RUM, Synthetics, APM & observability tools
Qualifications
- 1-2 years experience in a Team Lead role or as a Senior SRE with strong people leadership skills
- Five years of experience in a software development and/or operations role
- Intermediate experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Senior-level experience in infrastructure operations including on-premise, AWS or Azure environments
- Intermediate experience with scripting (Powershell, bash, or Python preferred)
- Ability to troubleshoot running applications in a systematic manner
- Working proficiency with Git
- Comfortable with Scrum-based development lifecycle
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate complex ideas into diagrams, user stories, and ultimately working software
- Strong sense of ownership around producing results.
