Technical Writer
Xplor Education
Company Description
Take a seat on the Xplor rocket ship and join us as a Technical Writer.
We’re a global team of builders, listeners and problem-solvers who are relentlessly focused on making life simple, so our customers can get back to growing their business and doing what they love.
Job Description
About the role
We’re hiring a Technical Writer to create clear, accurate, user- and developer-friendly documentation for our payments platform. You’ll own both internal- and external-facing content such as Guides, API references, SDK docs, Release Notes, Integration Playbooks, and more. You’ll partner with Product, Engineering, Solution Engineering, and Integration to help customers understand our products and integrate faster, with fewer support escalations.
What you’ll do:
Own user- and developer-facing content end to end: plan, write, edit, and maintain guides, quickstarts, SDKs, Webhooks, API references, Changelogs, and other docs.
Information architecture: shape the Developer Center (information architecture, navigation, landing pages) so that content is easy to find and maintain.
Style & quality: apply the Microsoft Style Guide and internal standards; enforce templates, terminology, and editorial quality across contributions.
Samples & accuracy: partner with engineers to create runnable examples, Postman collections, and sandbox steps; validate flows end-to-end.
Tooling & publishing: publish via our documentation platform; keep wikis and knowledge bases aligned.
Feedback & analytics: instrument docs, gather user feedback, triage issues, and iterate to reduce time to first successful call.
Cross-functional collaboration: participate in backlog refinement and reviews, track documentation tasks, and align with product roadmaps.
Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years writing user- and developer-facing documentation, with a strong portfolio (API references, user guides, integration guides, quickstarts, SDKs, webhooks).
API fundamentals: REST, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger, auth (OAuth2/JWT), webhooks, pagination, rate limits, and error models.
Code literacy: Able to read .NET and Java (controllers, models, attributes/annotations) and translate changes into docs.
Docs-as-code: Git/Azure DevOps workflows (branching, PR reviews), Markdown, versioning, and deprecation practices.
Tooling: Swagger UI/Editor or Redocly/Stoplight, Postman/collections, and a modern docs platform (e.g., GitBook).
IA & editorial: Information architecture, templates, terminology, and Microsoft Style Guide proficiency.
Quality & accuracy: Create runnable samples, validate end-to-end flows in sandbox, and keep wikis/KBs in sync.
Collaboration: Work effectively with Product, Engineering, and Solution Engineering; clear written and verbal communication. You will support teams across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the USA, and India.
